DETE Postpones Planned Increase in Minimum Annual Salary for Employment Permits

By 20 January 2025No Comments

The Department of Employment, Tourism, and Education (DETE) has announced that the planned increase in the Minimum Annual Remuneration (MAR) for employment permits will be postponed. As a result, there will be no increase in the Minimum Annual Renumeration for employment permits in January 2025.

The MAR is the minimum salary required for an employment permit to be issued. It was previously increased in January 2024 as part of a roadmap for gradual increases through to 2026. For more details, you can refer to the Outcome of the Review of the Employment Permits Occupations Lists.

However, there is one exception to this delay. The scheduled increase in the salary threshold for health care assistants, home carers, and care workers will still go ahead. The new minimum remuneration of €30,000 (up from €27,000) will take effect on January 17, 2025. Any applications received before this date will be processed under the current salary thresholds, and previously issued employment permits will not be affected.

For further details, please check the full notice available on the DETE website.
