Let’s get Family Reunion into the Programme for Government!!

Family reunion is MRCI’s number one priority as we head towards a general election in Ireland.

You can help reunite families by asking your local candidates to make this issue a priority!

Can you:

    • Ask your candidates about this when they knock on your door?
    • Write an email to your local candidates?
    • Write a letter to your local candidates?

Key points to raise

    • Families belong together. Did you know that thousands of migrant workers are denied the right to have their partner or children with them here?
    • They face long waiting times and a salary assessment that thousands can’t meet meaning many are separated from their families for up to 7 years.
    • Migrant workers are keeping this country going and contributing hugely to the economy and society. They are looking after older people and children, putting food on tables, driving buses and building houses.
    • They deserve to be treated fairly in this work. They deserve to have their own families here.
    • Nobody in Ireland should have to choose between providing for their family and actually being with them.

And some questions to ask candidates

    • Where do you and your party stand on this vital issue?
    • Do you believe that families belong together?
    • Do you believe that people should be able to have their families here with them, when they come to work here?
    • Do you believe that nobody in Ireland should have to choose between providing for their family and actually being with them?
